"Later the W3C corrected our format and made a huge mess of things." Wrong. The W3C has never had any activity, nor produced any specification, on RSS. Folks that were involved with the birth of RSS and RDF (despite your recollection of the history [1]) have since become affiliated with W3C activities given the convergence of interests.
