A qeuery about GET

hi!
  i'm trying to write a simple http client.
can anyone tell me when a GET is sent to the server how are the images embedded in
html file retrieved? do i have to GET them explicitely?
  When i sniffed the packets sent by the browser, i didn't see any separate request for
 an image but still the images were retrieved.
