Wenning, and Thomas Roessler have been invited to join us for discussion of

4. [15]ISSUE-67 (HTML-XML-Divergence-67): HTML / XML
Unification
+ Norm Walsh will be joining us by phone for this
session
+ Goals:
o Review, correct if necessary, and agree to send
[16]draft e-mail on polyglot from Jeni Tennison
(see also thread following from Jeni's posting)
+ Background:
o [17]E-mail from Sam Ruby (26 March 2010)
conveying to HTML WG the TAG's request that a
"there should be in TR space a document which
specifies how one can create a set of bits which
can be served EITHER as text/html OR as
application/xhtml+xml, which will work
identically in a browser in both bases."
o [18]Telcon discussion on 6 December 2012 during
which we assigned [19]ACTION-771: on - Jeni
Tennison - Draft e-mail responding to request to
rescind polyglot request to HTML WG?
o [20]draft e-mail on polyglot from Jeni Tennison
(see also thread following from Jeni's posting)
o Sam's request appears to be a follow-on to a
joint discussion between the TAG and the HTML
working group chairs which occurred on 24 March
2010 ([21]minutes). Tim Berners-Lee is quoted in
those minutes as saying "I want that there should
be in TR space a document which specifies how I
can create a set of bits which I can server
EITHER as text/html OR as xhtml+xml, which will
work in a browser in both cases, as Sam does on
his web site." (typos fixed [Noah]).
o W3C Working Group Note [22]HTML/XML Task Force
Report W3C Working Group Note 9 February 2012
o Request from Henri Sivonen that the TAG
[23]Rescind the request to the HTML WG to develop
a polyglot guide ([24]Henri and the [25]HTML
working group chairs clarify that this request is
from Henri as an individual, not formally on
behalf of the HTML working group. Nonetheless, it
will be useful to the working group to have
guidance within the next two weeks.)
o [26]Comments on Henri's request from Larry
Masinter
o [27]HTML WG Bugzilla Entry requesting change in
status from REC to Note for polyglot
o [28]E-mail from Henri Sivonen to HTML WG giving
rationale for requesting change (referenced from
[29]bugzilla entry)
o [30]E-mail from Lachlan Hunt to HTML WG giving
rationale for requesting change (referenced from
[31]bugzilla entry)
o [32]E-mail from Noah Mendelsohn suggesting that
[33]Sam Ruby's blog posting be considered. Note
that same also references a proposal to [34]drop
the term XHTML from the title of the polyglot
specification
