Perhaps it was silly of the XML Core WG to imagine that there was
value in correcting a couple of small, simple, discrete, bugs in XLink
without reopening the entire specification to redesign. I'm probably
most directly responsible for that silly course of action, but
hopefully I've learned something from the exercise.

I encourage you and Boris to draft a charter for a new XLink WG to
correct the errors that you see.
