Hi Ed, Tag, It was Ed Davies who said at the right time 01.06.2007 11:45 the following words: > > Would it be a fair summary of this finding to say that > a 303 response to an attempt to access someURI with a > location field set to someOtherURI and the assertion: > > <someURI> > <http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#seeAlso> > <someOtherURI> . > > are equivalent? > > After all, "See Other" and "seeAlso" look pretty similar. looking Up seeAlso: "Further information about the subject resource." That is semantically true, but not precise enough. seeAlso links can be used to link across any RDF documents on the web that describe the same resource. The relation between <someURI> and the 303 redirect to <someOtherURI> (which would then be a html or rdf description of <someURI>) is more specialized than seeAlso. Because the site admin of someURI can only redirect to ONE such someOtherURI, the someOtherURI has a special meaning of being "I, the domain holder, think the best description of <someURI>". We could raise seeAlso into this more specific relation, but I would rather go with (what also Dan Brickley has brought up in [2]) foaf:isPrimaryTopicOf. Or my own pimo:occurrenceRef, or SKOS' http://www.w3.org/2004/02/skos/core#isPrimarySubjectOf . And I would hope to raise isPrimaryTopicOf/isPrimarySubjectOf as an extension into the RDFS or RDF vocab, as it is rather important across many applications on top of rdf. (otherwise, foaf and skos and many heretics like me need to fight it out). > > If that's a reasonable way to look at it, why not make > them formally equivalent? I.e., describe the equivalence > in the finding. rdfs:seeAlso doesn't have much meaning > anyway but it might be helpful if many people stored > these responses in the same way. > > Ed Davies. > > I think the difference is that seeAlso can and should have MANY links in the semantic web (=many opinions about the same subject) whereas isPrimaryTopicOf is the "description published by the domain holder", more authority. seeAlso the sindice service setup by Giovanni Tummarello and Eyal Oren to get a picture of what a seeAlso can do for you: http://www.sindice.com/ http://www.sindice.com/lookup?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2FPeople%2FBerners-Lee%2Fcard%23i best Leo [2] http://www.w3.org/mid/46609153.4040603@danbri.org -- ____________________________________________________ DI Leo Sauermann http://www.dfki.de/~sauermann Deutsches Forschungszentrum fuer Kuenstliche Intelligenz DFKI GmbH Trippstadter Strasse 122 P.O.
