The I18N WG discussed Namespaces in XML at its recent meetings. Our conclusions are given below. They are closely related to TAG issue URIEquivalence-15. AGREED: Namespace URIs should allow the same range of characters as XML System Identifiers. Section 1. Motivation and Summary http://www.w3.org/TR/xml-names11/#sec-intro includes the following text: [Definition: URI references which identify namespaces are considered identical when they are exactly the same character-for-character.] Note that URI references which are not identical in this sense may in fact be functionally equivalent. Examples include URI references which differ only in case, or which are in external entities which have different effective base URIs. AGREED: It is unclear what is meant by "functionally equivalent" within the context of the Namespaces specification. AGREED: The "character-for-character" comparison should be specified as being case sensitive, eg: - "a" is not the same as "A" - "http" is not the same as "HTTP" AGREED: The Namespaces specification should make clear whether: - "%6A" is the same as "j" AGREED: The Namespaces specification should make clear whether: - "%6A" is the same as "%6a" Regards, Misha Wolf I18N WG Chair -------------------------------------------------------------- -- Visit our Internet site at http://www.reuters.com Any views expressed in this message are those of the individual sender, except where the sender specifically states them to be the views of Reuters Ltd.
