Hello, The first TAG election ended 28 November. The results of the election will be made available separately. Per the TAG charter [1] and section 1.6.1 of the 19 July 2001 Process Document [2], we will use the "publicly verifiable nomcom random selection" process defined in RFC2777 [3] to choose which elected and appointed participants of the initial TAG will serve a one-year term instead of a two-year term. From the charter: "When the W3C Director appoints three individuals to the initial TAG, he will appoint two people until 31 December 2002, and one person until 31 December 2003. "In the initial TAG election, three of the seats will expire on 31 December 2002 and the other two on 31 December 2003." The dates of the terms will change, but the term lengths will still be one or two years. Per the Process Document: "Using the algorithm in RFC2777 to order the successful candidates, the available terms are filled shortest first." The Director will also use RFC2777 to draw a short straw for the appointees. The purpose of this email is to archive publicly that we will use the following inputs to the algorithm (once for elected participants, once for appointees): 1) Reference date: 6 December 2001 2) Three sources of randomness (on the reference date): a) Standard and Poors 500 Index, closing value. http://www.spglobal.com/closes_us.html b) Massachusetts State Lottery "Numbers" game, winning four numbers. http://www.masslottery.com/Numbers_Main_Page.shtml c) The day's average "standard (atmospheric) pressure" (in millibars) in San Jose, CA (USA). http://www.wunderground.com/ Note: We are aware that these sources of data are all US-based. This doesn't affect the algorithm. For the next time we use the algorithm, we welcome suggestions for other similar sources of persistent data on the Web. 3) List of participant names. Names will be listed in alphabetical order by family name.
