One of the advantages of having the unified model Microsoft requested (which became Web Animations) and reimplementing SMIL in terms of that model, is that SMIL automatically picks up all the optimizations applied to CSS. Likewise, animation developer tools (like those appearing and Chrome and Firefox recently) should automatically work with SMIL animations too. Best regards, Brian
