(You know it's that table of file size comparisons in the appendix that really grates.) I think having that kind of information in the SVG Primer, or even a blog post somewhere, would be better than in the spec. My impression is that the appendix was originally included to counter complaints that SVG documents were too big. I don't think we're in the position now where we have people complaining about that. And I'd imagine that most servers are automatically gzipping content for transfer anyway, these days.
