Hence, an irritant ;) I did do some searching on how XLink is applied in other technologies. The consensus indicates that XLink is not being applied very much. I'm assuming the attribute will remain, and hopeful the href/src option will be made available. Who knows, SVG with its XML data linkages, may itself, give rebirth to XLink.
