Some additional points of interest: In Opera and Firefox, both 'evt' and 'event' are bound inside an SVG event listener attribute (e.g. <rect onclick="…">), but only 'event' is in HTML ones. In Opera, 'event' is bound in an event listener registered with addEventListener() even if the function was declared with no arguments (this applies to SVG and HTML elements): <!DOCTYPE html> <span id='s'>click me</span> <script> document.getElementById('s').addEventListener ('click', function() { alert(event) }, false); </script> and 'evt' isn’t bound.
