Hi JC, This is the official response from the SVG WG from your email (http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-svg/2005Dec/0097.html). Thanks for your feedback. You are correct. The LC draft was unclear about whether "rendering" includes audio. We have changed the specification to make clear that 'display' controls what content goes into the rendering tree and that the rendering tree controls both visual and aural rendering. As display="none" does not influence the execution of the animate* elements, an explicit mention about this would be welcome. It may be necessary to introduce the distinction between aural rendering and visual rendering in the SVG spec which only talks of the "rendering tree" today.
