We agree that XHTML does not have a definition of a conforming XHTML document fragment and people might assume from this example that it does. We have changed the example so it makes weird use of elements that are not in the XHTML namespace and do not even look like XHTML elements. It should be much clearer that this is an example - the requiredFeatures URI and the xmlns are both in example.com, for example.
