I also need an answer to this question, hopefully a URL explaining in  
precise details the answers:

Does SVG have any associated legal or license details or restrictions?
Who owns SVG [specification] rights, if anyone.
Minute details are important, for example I notice the SVG documentation is  
copyrighted MIT, INRIA, Keio. We may want to duplicate a reference manual on  
our CD so that would be a consideration. What about any trademark associated  
with "SVG"; where are the rights to state, for example: "conforms to SVG  
standard" spelled out? Is SVG trademarked? If so who owns the trademark.
