CALL FOR ENTRIES
The transmediale will award three prizes in 2001 - each worth DM 10.000 -
in the following categories:
Interactive, Video and Artistic Software.
The transmediale.01 invites the submission of artistic projects developed
in or after 1998.
Interactive installations are invited in the INTERACTIVE section together
with virtual environments, CD-ROMs, DVDs, Internet, performance projects
etc. in which visitors or users are not simply "interpassive" but are
encouraged to respond and act in a creative manner.
The VIDEO section covers linear, time-based presentations searching for new
aesthetic forms of expression. These can be on DVD, various video formats
or film (up to 35 mm).
The as yet barely defined field of ARTISTIC SOFTWARE incorporates projects
in which self-written algorithmic computer software (stand alone programmes
or script-based applications) is not merely a functional tool, but is
itself an artistic creation and a form of aesthetic expression.
Please notice that the award competition will concentrate on artistic
projects which are concerned with the DIY development and construction of
creative tools and are designed to pass on creative media competence.

It is urgently requested that entries should arrive prior to that date,
though.
The transmediale - international media art festival berlin - will be held
from 4 to 11 February 2001 in the Podewil - Center for Contemporary Arts -
in Berlin and at other venues. The transmediale is a platform for artistic
and critical reflection on the role of digital technologies in present-day
society. The festival provides a forum for communication between artists,
those working in the media and a wide range of experts and offers a
stimulating environment for the presentation of major new digital culture
projects.

AUSSCHREIBUNG
Die transmediale wird im kommenden Jahr in den Kategorien Interactive,
Video und Kuenstlerische Software jeweils einen transmediale award in Hoehe
von DM 10.000 vergeben.
Die transmediale.01 laedt ein zur Einreichung von kuenstlerischen
Projekten, die seit 1998 entstanden sind.
Im Bereich INTERACTIVE sind sowohl interaktive Installationen als auch
virtuelle Umgebungen, CD-ROM, DVD, Internet, Performance-Projekte, usw.,
willkommen, bei denen der Besucher oder Benutzer nicht nur >interpassiv<
ist, sondern zu aktivem und kreativem Handeln angeregt wird.
Unter VIDEO werden lineare, zeitbasierte Darstellungen gefasst, die sowohl
auf DVD, verschiedenen Videoformaten oder auf Film (bis 35 mm) entstanden
sein koennen und die nach neuen aesthetischen Formsprachen suchen.
Der noch kaum definierte Bereich der KUENSTLERISCHEN SOFTWARE umfasst
solche Projekte, bei denen selbstgeschriebene algorithmische
Computersoftware (Standalone-Programme oder skriptbasierte Anwendungen)
nicht nur Hilfsmittel, sondern selbst eine kuenstlerische Arbeit und
aesthetische Ausdrucksform ist.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass sich der Wettbewerb der transmediale.01 auf solche
kuenstlerischen Projekte konzentriert, die sich mit dem Selberentwickeln
und Selberbauen von kreativen Werkzeugen beschaeftigen und die auf die
Weitergabe kreativer medialer Kompetenz ausgerichtet sind.

Vom 4. bis zum 11. Februar 2001 findet im Podewil, Zentrum fuer aktuelle
Kuenste, in Berlin und an anderen Orten die transmediale - internationales
medienkunstfestival berlin statt. Die transmediale ist eine Plattform fuer
kuenstlerische und kritische Reflexionen ueber die Rolle digitaler
Technologien in der heutigen Gesellschaft. Das Festival versteht sich als
kommunikatives Forum fuer Kuenstler, Medienschaffende und ein
vielschichtiges Fachpublikum sowie als ein Praesentationsort fuer neue und
bedeutende Projekte der digitalen Kultur.
