Its a cool idea, provided you make it an international region identifier -
not everyone has zip codes (e.g. we have postcodes which are similar).

Perhaps
us.<zipcode>
uk.<postcode>
etc as appropriate.

Also in this world of GSM handhelds, perhaps radius + Latitude & Longitude
