Blue Ribbon for Bundle
Just SMIL congratulates RealNetworks, Digital Renaissance, and Cinax
Designs for winning PC Computing's MVP Award for Web Development.
RealNetworks newly renamed RealProducer Plus is teamed with T.A.G. and
MediaPalette in a sure-fire bundle that PC Computing says will take your
"Web site to the next level."

Broadcast.com buys SimpleNet
G2/SMIL supporter Broadcast.com is acquiring webhost Simple Network
Communications. According to a report from Cyrus Afzali at
Internetnews.com, Broadcast.com will introduce self-service audio and video
streaming to SimpleNet's customers. An affordable SMIL-friendly web hosting
service for the masses? We can dream can't we?

Still Kicking
Macromedia is releasing Director 7 Shockwave Internet Studio this December.
Among the needed Internet features coming in the update is basic support
for XML. With XML support in both Dreamweaver and Director, is HTML+TIME or
SMIL capability far behind? Maybe Director has a little life left in it yet.

They Come and They Go
Internetnews.com is reporting that Microsoft has decided to shelve their
plans to develop an XML-based Web multimedia technology called
Chromeffects. Chromeffects was only announced a little over two months ago.
With Microsoft's increasing support behind HTML+TIME for upcoming releases
of Internet Explorer, it is possible that Chromeffects may have been viewed
as a distraction.
