Hi We have installed the following system Environment at Werft22 Labs within our Fast Ethernet LAN: 1. Windows '95 Pentium II 300 MHZ /128 MB RAM with Philips DVD 5200/30 and Real Magic MPEG EncoderBoard 2. Windows NT 4.0 Pentium II 300 MHZ / 128 MB RAM with DBC ShowSite MPEG Encoder Board 3. Windows '95 Pentium II 300 MHZ /256 MB RAM with Real Player G2 and DBC MPEG Plugin We put a DVD-ROM of the movie "Stargate" into the DVD on System 1 with Real Magic MPEG EncoderBoard and examined the quality of the Picture, the motion and the sound: Okay. We encoded at about 3.5 Mbps 10 minutes (232 MB) from a VHS Tape of the movie "Stargate" to stargate.mpeg and replayed the file on system 3 with the Real Player G2: stroboscopical effect on the motion with 128 MB RAM. Significant improvement with 256 MB RAM, still shaky. We then replayed the file stargate.mpeg on system 1 with Real Magic MPEG Encoder Board: Okay Conclusion: we need to know the possibilities of software mpeg encoding and we suppose a mpeg hardware encoder to be build on a systemboard like build in devices as SCSI or Ethernet, asap. So anybody knows the exact RS G2 mpeg decoding limits, please let us know, we would safe some time while xperimenting.
