Just SMIL News (visit http://www.justsmil.com/news/ for associated links) SMIL at Web98 RealNetworks will be rolling out the G2 carpet at the Web 98 Conference in Boston on September 24. Real's all day technical sessions will covering the latest G2 features and provide a look at Authoring Streaming Media Web Sites with SMIL. This comes right on the heels of a very successful National Association of Webmasters SMIL meeting that was written up in PC Week. As covered in the article, disability access is becoming an important SMIL theme. With all of the recent activity, Boston is quickly becoming the place to SMIL. SMIL in Bristol Sept 14-15 If you are on the other side of the pond, don't forget that on September 14-15, CWI will be providing a demo of GRiNS at the ACM Multimedia 98 Conference in Bristol, UK. TechWeb's G2 SMIL Are you a fan of TechWeb Today? If you want a behind the scenes view of how TechWeb uses the G2 flavor of SMIL, catch Leah Goldberg's tutorial. Mentions of Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language in the trade press (and even the popular press) appear to be picking up. DAISY 2.0 Draft Released A draft of the DAISY 2.0 specification has been released. The Digital Audio Information based System (DAISY) Consortium is a collection of libraries and organizations serving the blind and print disabled community throughout the world. DAISY 2.0 is based on SMIL and HTML. Keiko Ships No, not a piece of software but just as important. Free Willy star Keiko the Orca whale leaves Oregon state for the waters of Iceland this week. With RealNetworks offering the feed, expect a jump in the download of G2 capable SMIL players this week. Check Your Just SMIL Links A quick note to those of you kind enough to link to this site.
