I was thinking of a way of implementing SMIL using as much existing existing technology as possible. How about a Java wrapper around QuickTime which parses the SMIL document and creates a QuickTime reference movie. This would be cross platform and have all the benefits of QuickTime performance. The ref movie is generated so can be built dynamically at runtime. The SMIL java class would be relatively simple & small as nearly all the hard work is done by QuickTime. Richard Harvey
