Ph.D. / PostDoc Positions at L3S Research Center, Germany ========================================================= The L3S Research Center, Hannover, Germany, invites applications for PostDoc and Ph.D. research positions in the context of three new international research projects which start in 2009 in our Search and Technology Enhanced Learning groups at L3S. The LivingKnowledge FP7 FET Project, with participation of a leading search engine, will investigate radically new ways for searching the Web, taking into account the diversity, bias and opinion present in the vast amount of information available on the Web. The FP7 SYNC3 project focuses on collaborative creation of user-provided content with a particular focus on news items, in collaboration with another leading search engine. Finally, STELLAR is a European Network of Excellence on Technology Enhanced learning, with a focus on Web 2.0 infrastructures and collaboration. Your research will focus on topics in the following areas * Search and Information Retrieval * Information and Concept Extraction * Data Mining and Statistical Analysis * User Interface Engineering and Interaction Design * Semantic Technologies and Web 2.0 * Multimodal Communication and Analysis * Social Software for Technology Enhanced Learning in a challenging and unique research environment. Two or three of the positions will be involved in project management, with the usual EU FP7 project management tasks. You should possess good knowledge in one or several areas relevant for the topics specified in this announcement. This includes information retrieval and search, machine learning, database and information systems, semantic web technology, natural language processing and linguistic methods, social software and technology enhanced learning. Good proficiency in English is expected, as well as an outstanding M.Sc. or Ph.D. in computer science, media technologies or languages. German language skills as well as knowledge of a third European language are useful, but not mandatory. International experience during your studies or afterwards, as well as good social and communication skills are helpful. The salary amounts to German TV-L E13/E14, which is roughly 40.000 to 50.000 Euro gross income per year.
