Apologies for multiple postings. CALL FOR CHAPTERS Submission Deadline: March 15, 2006 Emerging Technologies of Text Mining: Techniques and Applications A book edited by Dr. Hércules Antonio do Prado, Embrapa Food Technology and Dr. Edilson Ferneda, Catholic University of Brasília Introduction Text Mining (TM) can be defined as the application of computational methods and techniques over textual data in order to find relevant and intrinsic information and previously unknown knowledge. TM techniques can be organized into four categories: classification, association analysis, information extraction, and clustering. Classification techniques consist of the allocation of objects into predefined classes or categories. Association analysis can be applied to help the identification of words or concepts that occur together and to understand the contents of a document or a set of documents. Information extraction techniques are able to find relevant data or expressions inside documents. Clustering is applied to discover underlying structures of a documents set. TM is an effective alternative to approach the problem posed by the large (and increasing) amount of textual information existing in the organizations. The Overall Objective of the Book This book aims to provide the audience with technical information on the computational models that are on the basis of the TM process, provide the methodological support to apply those techniques in real world situations, bring successful experiences and results regarding to the application of TM in real world problems solution, and point out new trends in this field. The Target Audience This book is addressed to the public interested in TM techniques and their applications to transform in competitive advantage the vast amount of textual information existing nowadays in organizations. Professionals of Information Technology, systems managers, undergraduate and graduate teachers, and students are among the people that can benefit from this book. Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following: Algorithms and techniques for Text Mining Classification and/or clustering approaches Frameworks of tools/methodologies Methodologies for guiding application development Hybrid applications mixing structured and non structured data in text mining Real world applications and cases Text Mining in the context of Business and Competitive Intelligence New trends in Text Mining SUBMISSION PROCEDURE Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before March 15, 2006, a 2-5 page manuscript proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of the proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by April 15, 2006 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter organizational guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by July 15, 2006. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. The book is scheduled to be published by Idea Group Inc., www.idea-group.com, publisher of the Idea Group Publishing, Information Science Publishing, IRM Press, CyberTech Publishing and Idea Group Reference imprints.
