Also, components follow individual paths of evolution during their life-cycles. It can be observed that this is a major cause for interoperability problems, contributing to the brittleness of systems integration efforts. If we want to increase the degree of automation in general, it seems important to provide software components that can help overcome occurring interoperability conflicts and this in an automated fashion. This functionality is known as mediation and the respective components are called mediators. Mediation can take place on a multiplicity of levels, e.g. on data, ontologies, processes, protocols, or goals. To a great extent, it will depend on the availability of sophisticated, industry-strength mediation support whether the promise of Semantic Web services can become reality. In this workshop we want to advance the theoretical and practical knowledge about the design and implementation of mediators in the Semantic Web and Semantic Web services. Focus of the Workshop: ---------------------- Possible topics include, but are not limited to - Conceptual Aspects of Mediation - Data Mediation - Ontology Mediation - Process Mediation - Protocol Mediation - Goal Mediation - Architecture and Implementation of Effective Mediation Services - Evolution, Learning, and Adaptability of Mediators - Versioning Issues - Grounding of Semantic Web Services Submission Format: ------------------ Authors are invited to submit original research contributions in English, following the LNCS format (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html). Papers must not exceed 16 pages. Shorter papers, presenting preliminary results, are welcome. Submitted papers will be reviewed by at least two members of the program committee. Please send your submissions in PDF format to mediate2005@deri.org For accepted submissions, at least one author must register for the workshop in order for the paper to appear in the proceedings and to be scheduled in the workshop program. Postproceedings in the form of a book will be considered.
