Call for PhD Forum

The 16th IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (IEEE ICDM 2016) will
host a forum for PhD students to highlight their dissertation work. The PhD
Forum spans various topics of data mining and related fields such as
machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, databases,
information retrieval, multimedia mining, social-media analysis, and web
mining. Application areas of data mining, such as bioinformatics and
science informatics are also encouraged. Participants with
interdisciplinary work across the areas are particularly welcome.

The PhD Forum invites papers from doctoral students describing their work.
Accepted papers will be published in IEEE proceedings. During the workshop,
researchers with experience in supervising and examining doctoral students
will be able to participate and provide feedback to the participants.
Important Dates

*All deadlines are at 11:59PM Pacific Daylight Time.*

   - Submission deadline: Aug 12, 2016
   - Notification date: Sep 12, 2016
   - Camera-ready deadline: Sep 20, 2016
   - PhD Forum date: Dec 12, 2016

Submission

The submissions should propose research ideas that are mature enough to be
presented into a paper and whose content can evolve to become the
substantial part of a PhD dissertation. The authors should be PhD students
or Masters students aspiring to become PhD candidates. Students may also
consider submitting work on one or more sub-problems of their dissertation.
Papers should address research problems in the PhD proposal of the
students, and they should focus on highlighting the challenges of the
problems, the originality of the approach, as well as technical aspects of
the proposed techniques. Preliminary experimental evaluation should also be
included. Authors of accepted submissions are expected to participate in
person to the Forum.

The PhD forum is open for two types of submissions:

   - Regular papers should present established research with enough
scientific contribution to the field (at most 10 pages in length).
   - Extended abstracts are meant for ongoing research that is expected to
provide further advances in the future (2 pages in length).
