PhD Position in Data and Knowledge Engineering The university of Mannheim offers a PhD position in the area of data and knowledge engineering. The position has a duration of 3 years with the option of an extension to 5 years. Payment is according to German standard Salary Scale (TVL) level 13 (3.000 - 3.500 Euro per months before taxes depending on work experience). The appointment is will start in spring 2009. The candidate will perform work in a joint project of the Database and the Artificial Intelligence chair. The project is concerned with the development of a scalable distributed infrastructure for sensor data management and is part of the Research Cluster 'Organic Electronics' an 80 Million Euro research cluster involving the major companies and universities in the area. Candidates should have a diploma or a comparable degree in computer science. In order to be eligible for performing a PhD at the university of Mannheim a good result in the final exam is mandatory. We expect good English and preferably German language skills, substantial programming experience preferably in C or C++ and profound knowledge in at least two of the following areas: - Algorithms and data Structures - Database design and implementation - Heuristic Optimization - Distributed Systems - XML/RDF Technologies - Workflow Management Applications containing the usual documents and - if available - a copy of the diploma thesis or a previous publication should be send by email to Prof. Stuckenschmidt (heiner@informatik.uni-mannheim.de).
