RDF binding, Java::IMS MD-Interoperability (fwd)

DC-Architecture WG, RDF IG,

The msg below describes some work beginning within the IMS world on
binding their educational metadata spec to RDF. RDF/DC implementors,
please take a look at this. Anybody interested in working on this, do
let me know, and also do consider sending a summary of implementor
feedback to these lists. Interoperability with
educational metadata has long been on the Dublin Core agenda. Now that
the DC in RDF work is progressing again [1], I believe this new work
within the IMS community is very timely. RDF was created to allow fine
grained mixing of metadata constructs from different communities of
expertise. Or so we've always said. It's time we put some of those grand
claims to the test...

pps. I'll forward a follow up message too, though I'm wary of
spawning a huge crossposted thread.

Subject: RDF binding, Java::IMS MD-Interoperability

Posted by:  Mikael Nilsson

I have the pleasure to announce the creation of an IMS-RDF binding
effort.

I have gathered some people willing to work on an RDF binding for IMS
metadata, and early attempts at an RDF Schema for this already exist.

The people thus far involved are

Mikael Nilsson <mini@nada.kth.se> (me)
Wolfgang Nejdl <nejdl@kbs.uni-hannover.de>
Boris Wolf <Boris.Wolf@stud.uni-hannover.de>
Hadhami Dhraief <hdhraief@kbs.uni-hannover.de>
Jan Brase <brase@kbs.uni-hannover.de>

but anyone at all interested are encouraged to join. We need all help we
can get, as an RDF binding can be done in a number of different ways, and
we are a bit short on time. Please comment on our work.

The project has a primitive homepage under

http://www.nada.kth.se/~mini/ims/

where the draft binding and schema will be posted in time.

I would like to know from the WG leaders what documents we need to produce.
Will we need a separate RDF binding document, similar to the XML binding?
And what is a realistic timeframe if we want this binding to go into the
1.2 spec? I would be inclined to believe that it is not that critical if
the public draft in May is not 100% polished, as noone depends that
critically on this binding (like SCORM for the XML binding). Thus we do not
need a 100% finished version until august. Am I right?
