Tim, RDF IG,
the new release of the updated RDF API [2] includes a parser that is
based on a simplified RDF syntax. The parser goes beyond [3,4] in that
it is capable of processing arbitrary XML files and generating an RDF
interpretation for them. A slight modification of DTDs allows creating
fairly useful RDF models without changing the original XML data.
The parser makes no distinction between XML-only and RDF-only syntax any
more.
[1] is a good starting point.
I'm looking forward to hearing your comments.
Best,
Sergey
