Dear Mark, The three tasks you suggest sound quite reasonable. I am already working on the second (generating a UI via a web browser). Upon the advice of students familiar with the previous attempt, I'm starting again from scratch. Currently, I am coding methods that will render the Haystack display in HTML. Later, we will have to decide how to manage communication between Haystack and the browser, in particular, to handle changes in the display triggered either by the user (e.g., by mouse movements in the native Haystack UI) or by the underlying data store (e.g., because agents have entered new data in the store). Also, we will have to decide how to handle special purpose UI elements that are implemented in a mixture of Adenine and Java (e.g., the calendar application) rather then entirely in Adenine. However, we need not solve the general problem right away, because we can develop UI elements for SIMILE in a way that facilitates the use of a web browser. I will start taking a look at both the Artstor data and the email discussions about canonicalization of creator names. I may not be able to develop much of an opinion about the issues here for a few weeks, because I will be out of the country for ten days starting this weekend. However, I will still be checking my email while I am away. Regards, Steve
