Hotels for Boulder meeting

QAWG participants --

Thanks to NIST for supplying this great directory to Boulder hotels. It is
the place to start for details on any of the options. Recognizing that
there is a certain amount of artful writing in the hotel-supplied
descriptions, don't hesitate to ask me if you have questions.

We have talked with some of the hotels, and could arrange special-rate room
blocks for these two options. If there is split interest (both), we will
do blocks at both. These represent a couple of quite distinct options, in
terms of price, ambiance, location, etc.

Boulder Outlook Hotel & Suites
=====

Room-block (NIST) rate: $79.95. This is probably as cheap as you will
find in Boulder.

Features: Recently renovated, promises lots of features, see the above URL.

Comments: This is one of a cluster of hotels/motels (Best Western,
Super-8, Broker Inn) which is closest to NIST. It is located on the main
6-lane highway into Boulder. One can walk to NIST in about 15 minutes (I
tried it), along 6-8 lane highways and thoroughfares all the way. Within a
5 minute walk, there are numerous fast-food restaurants, a couple of
student-oriented bars (, gas stations, student housing, etc). Slightly
farther, there is a small shopping center with an Indian restaurant, Wild
Oats grocery, fast-food, couple of cinemas. 10-15 minutes the other
direction is the Crossroads Shopping Center. University of Colorado campus
is right across the highway.

Hotel Boulderado
=====

Room block (NIST) rate:  $119.

Features: Victorian historic landmark, heart of downtown. See above URL.

Comments: This is located right off of the Boulder downtown pedestrian
mall and tourist/entertainment district. It would be <10 minute ride to
NIST on "The Hop", a small circulator bus that runs every 10 minutes and
which you catch right outside of the hotel. Within 5 minutes walk are
scores of restaurants, bars, shops, etc. It's close to the Boulder Creek
Path and greenbelt, and about a 8-10 block walk to the edge of the mountains.

Other options
=====

There are lots of other options, of course. I did a spot check on a few
places like Marriott Courtyard, Millenium Harvest House, Sheraton. The
rates tend to be up around $139.

Need rental car?
=====

You can easily get to any Boulder hotel from the airport, with Super
Shuttle or some such. If you want to spend time in the mountains near
Boulder or around Colorado, you'll need a car. You won't need a car to get
to NIST from either of the two options above. If you are at the
Boulderado, you can probably keep yourself amused with what's in walking
distance. If you are at BOH&S, you will probably need transportation
(taxi, rental car, ...) to get to amusement and entertainment.

Other questions?

Regards,
-Lofton.
