Greetings --
"Patent Policy 2020" is being formally adopted by the DID WG in
which I am a participant [0].
[0] https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-did-wg/2020Nov/0017.html
(I believe such adoption must be done by my employer's AC Rep,
whom I am not, so the planned WG action seems possibly improper.
That's being addressed elsewhere.)
In searching for that Policy, I found the "Frequently Asked
Questions (FAQ) about the W3C Patent Policy (2020)" --
https://www.w3.org/2020/09/15-pp-faq.html
-- which says --
On 15 September, 2020, W3C adopted [1] the 15 September 2015
Patent Policy [2], updating the previous 5 February 2004
(updated 1 August 2017) Patent Policy [3].
[1] https://www.w3.org/blog/news/archives/8677
[2] https://www.w3.org/Consortium/Patent-Policy-20200915/
[3] https://www.w3.org/Consortium/Patent-Policy-20170801/
This is quite confusing, as the text here -- with potential
legal ramifications -- talks about 15 September 2015, but
links to a document from 15 September 2020.
I'm reasonably sure that "2015" is just a typo, and should be
"2020", but nothing I've found, including the "15 September
2020 version of the W3C Patent Policy", refers to "Patent
Policy (2020)" nor "Patent Policy 2020" (though other W3
pages do), so I cannot be sure.
I would suggest adding both "Patent Policy (2020)" and "Patent
Policy 2020" to the official "Patent Policy" page, so that is
more likely to pop up in a web search.
The FAQ page also says --
The W3C Patents and Standards Interest Group [4] reviews
proposed FAQ entries. Please send questions or comments
on the W3C Patent Policy or this document to the Patent
and Standards Interest Group public mailing list
www-patentpolicy-comment@w3.org (archive [5]).
[4] https://www.w3.org/2004/pp/psig/
[5] http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-patentpolicy-comment/
-- so here's my comment on that document.
THERE'S A SIGNIFICANT AND CONFUSING TYPO IN THE FIRST SENTENCE!
Please correct the FAQ page as soon as possible!
Thank you for your swift attention to this matter.
Ted
