Dear Advisory Committee Representative, Chairs, Multimodal Interaction Working Group members, The Multimodal Interaction Working Group [1] is now closed. The mission of the group was to develop open standards that enable the following vision: 1. Extending the Web to allow multiple modes of interaction, e.g., GUI, Speech, Vision, Pen, Gestures and Haptic interfaces 2. Letting anyone, anywhere, any device, any time access the Web through the user's preferred modes of interaction with services that adapt to the device, user and environmental conditions The group has been working on a number of deliverables from February 2002 through December 2016, and the charter [2] period for the group has expired. During the charter period, the group published W3C Recommendations for the Multimodal Architecture and Interfaces (MMI Architecture) [3], Extensible MultiModal Annotation (EMMA) [4] and Emotion Markup Language (EmotionML) [5]. The group also published a variety of W3C Working Group Notes. The group participants would like to continue to use the group's public mailing list <www-multimodal@w3.org> for spec maintenance. There has been discussion within the group on the group's next steps including a possible Community Group, and that discussion will be also continued on the public list. W3C thanks the group’s Chair, Deborah Dahl (W3C Invited Expert), and all the participants in the group for their efforts. This announcement follows section 5.2.8 of the Process Document: http://www.w3.org/2015/Process-20150901/#GeneralTermination [1] http://www.w3.org/2002/mmi/ [2] https://www.w3.org/2013/10/mmi-charter.html [3] http://www.w3.org/TR/2012/REC-mmi-arch-20121025/ [4] http://www.w3.org/TR/2009/REC-emma-20090210/ [5] http://www.w3.org/TR/2014/REC-emotionml-20140522/ Thank you, For Tim Berners-Lee, Director; Coralie Mercier, Head of W3C Marketing & Communications -- Coralie Mercier - W3C Marketing & Communications - http://www.w3.org mailto:coralie@w3.org +336 4322 0001 http://www.w3.org/People/CMercier/
