Cmode: After a breakfast meeting with one of our customers I played with one of the two Cmode vending machines in the Shibuya area this morning. I purchased one orange juice receiving my reward points to my Cmode account, but the machine could not print a discount ticket for a restaurant because the printer was broken. I got there around 10:00am, and I was about the only customer interested in the machine, however there were two "race queen" type (residents of Japan understand the meaning...) ladies in Coca-Cola color mini-skirts, 3 market research ladies with questionnaire sheets waiting for customers to fill in long sheets of questions about their experience, one official photographer to photograph the action, and about 8 serious looking salary men, who looked like bucho's of DoCoMo or Itochu or Coca-Cola to study. While I was drinking the drink, repair men opened the machine at least three times to fix something, probably the printer. Overall, it's a fantastic project, but I guess the mechanical parts still need some fixing to be reliable. One thing you can't do with Cmode at this time is to purchase a Coke and charge it to the mobile phone bill - which is what the hype is often about: using the mobile phone as a purse. I guess the reason for this is security. We have a prepared a Cmode section for the imode-faq with some more details: http://www.eurotechnology.com/imode/faq-cmode.html Best regards - and happy Cmode-ing to all of you, Gerhard Fasol http://www.eurotechnology.com/
