RE: CC/PP vocabularies for devices

hi Suryanarayana,

I don't know if I understood your comment well, but from my experience
within the WML community, content providers are already trying to customized
their content.
They would love to have their site showing one all devices, and they would be
ready to rewrite it ten times if needed. The problem is to know how to
customize it.
I guess what I am saying is here is that the lack of information is at the
core of the problem more than anything else.

IMHO (having worked on the WAP vocabulary as well on the CC/PP effort), it
is not sufficient to simply create a new vocabulary or a schema and have it
published. One would need to ensure that content providers are leveraging
that information in generating customized content. For proprietary tags that
a vendor would create, this would probably imply a marketing effort that
would involve making the content providers aware about the existence of such
tags/ schemas.

FYI, there has been some informal discussion in the CC/PP and DI groups
regarding the creation of a generic vocabulary for other devices. Perhaps
something will materialize in the near future.

No, you have to publish it in RDF schema form at a URI. Just like any
RDF Schema.
I am not sure about the status of the various schema editors there are,
go to http://www.w3.org/RDF/ where I think there is a listing. You can also
find more information about how to build schemas and use RDF there. Better
read up on namespaces, as well...

Hi all,I'd be intersted in creating my own UAProf as well, is there
any tool out there to build RDF Schema ?I think the standrad as it is now is
missing some sort of supported/unsupported tags information can I just go
ahead and add it to my own spec.ThanksOlivier

Since the descriptions are defined by the device manufacturers, and
since there is no registration procedure for profiles, we don't know. I have
not heard about anyone, though.
Note that if you want to, you can construct your own description of
a device (for instance using pieces from the UAPROF schema, as long as you
follow the CC/PP specifications). You can also invent your own elements. All
that is required is that you make the schema available at a persistent URI
(i.e. it does not go away for some periodof time).

Or you might want to prod the manufacturers of PDA:s. There are
several which use Linux now, they ought to be interested in diversifying
themselves.

          Hello,

Thanks for the prompt reply. Do CC/PP vocabulary descriptions
exist only for devices conforming to the WAP specification? Are there any
descriptions for devices that might not be conforming to WAP.

          thanks
