SIM App Toolkit vs. MExE vs. WAP, etc.

Hello!

I'm new to WAP as well. I'm trying to gain a deeper understanding of some of the issues surrounding WAP and was hoping for some guidance. My major questions are as follows:

1. Are the SIM Application Toolkit and Mobile Station Application Execution Environment (MExE) competitors to WAP or do they address fundamentally different technological questions? What are the primary differences? Are there other protocols that have functions similar to WAP?

2. Can users of a WAP-based microbrowser access all sites coded in WML directly or is there access controlled by the WAP Gateway? Is the typical WAP-based network architecture / programming model different from the model of the web given the existence of the WAP Gateway?

3. Is there a description available online that maps WAP component protocols to ISO OSI reference model layers?

Thank you for all and any help you can provide.

Sincerely,

Sohil Parekh
