  I agree with making /> self-closing for elements that get put in the  
  SVG and MathML namespaces. I think we shouldn't change the way things  
  work for HTML elements.


But don't special case mathml and svg to make /> work, make that the
default and special case html not to do it. That way gives far more
comatibility with xhtml where you can inline any xml and css style it to
do something possibly useful.
