The Web Commander is a Win32 application for getting, saving, and deleting documents remotely using HTTP/1.1. It allows the user to explicitly control the metadata describing the document to save including the natural language, type, charset, etc. An important feature is that it can detect and prevent the lost update problem so that people don't unknowingly override each others edits. The Web Commander supports proxies as well as SSH tunneling if need be so it should be able to work through any reasonable firewall. The program is available in binary as well as source code form at http://www.w3.org/WinCom/ The source code is as usual part of the libwww codebase, see http://www.w3.org/Library/cvs.html You can find some screen shots and help at http://www.w3.org/WinCom/ScreenShots.html I would *love* to get some help writing a real install shield - any takers?
