Yesterday I told you how I couldn't get the first make to work when compiling the libwww. Thanks to several helpful folks I've gotten beyond that (needed to use the GNU make), but I'm still having troubles. When I try to make install (using GNU make) I get the following error message: # /usr/local/bin/make install Making install in config make[1]: Entering directory `/raid/jsoltys/son/w3c-libwww-5.1b/config' make[1]: Leaving directory `/raid/jsoltys/son/w3c-libwww-5.1b/config' Making install in Library make[1]: Entering directory `/raid/jsoltys/son/w3c-libwww-5.1b/Library' Making install in src make[2]: Entering directory `/raid/jsoltys/son/w3c-libwww-5.1b/Library/src' Making install in windows make[3]: Entering directory `/raid/jsoltys/son/w3c-libwww-5.1b/Library/src/windows' make[3]: Leaving directory `/raid/jsoltys/son/w3c-libwww-5.1b/Library/src/windows' Making install in vms make[3]: Entering directory `/raid/jsoltys/son/w3c-libwww-5.1b/Library/src/vms' make[3]: Leaving directory `/raid/jsoltys/son/w3c-libwww-5.1b/Library/src/vms' /bin/sh ../../config/mkinstalldirs /usr/local/lib list="libwww.a"; for p in $list; do \ if test -f $p; then \ echo "../../config/install-sh -c -m 644 $p /usr/local/lib/$p"; \ ../../config/install-sh -c -m 644 $p /usr/local/lib/$p; \ else :; fi; \ done ../../config/install-sh -c -m 644 libwww.a /usr/local/lib/libwww.a ranlib /usr/local/lib/libwww.a /bin/sh: ranlib: not found make[2]: *** [install-libLIBRARIES] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/raid/jsoltys/son/w3c-libwww-5.1b/Library/src' make[1]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/raid/jsoltys/son/w3c-libwww-5.1b/Library' make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1 I am doing this as root so there's no permission errors... any ideas? --- John Soltys, Seattle Times New Media
