Dear Mr. Lazar, One more thing: 5.) Again according to the Java v1.3 SE API, Socket.setSoTimeout() ONLY limits the amount of time a read() call on the InputStream associated with that Socket. The Socket itself is not affected by the timeout and is still treated as being "valid." So, if the block is caused by the lack of an InputStream (as in my case), manipulating setSoTimeout() will not solve the problem.
