Many moons ago, I once had similar right panel drawing problems. I think I had to increase my screen resolution to get correct redraws and layout. You might try minimise/maximise to see if that helps layout. Java 2 has always preferred true colour displays. I have always recompiled from source rather than trusting the class files.
