jigadmin GUI resolution on WinNT

When running the JigAdmin utility the blue pattern/background in the left-hand 
half of the window comes and goes more-or-less at random with mouse clicks. 
When it comes, it obscures the tree structure such that the text is illegible. 
Is there something that can be done to work around or fix this problem?

PS: This may not be a jigsaw specific problem, however, because I've seen 
similar visual behaviour from one or two other JDK gui-based apps.
