Summary

Action Items and Charter Review

The WG reviewed action items and discussed the new charter draft, which Fuqiao had produced and received feedback from Florian on. Atsushi mentioned working on a document with Murata-san and requested time to catch up. Addison reported on several ongoing action items, including following up with Martin about URL standard gaps and attempting to engage Google representatives, though progress was slow.

Radar Review and Issue Updates

The WG reviewed radar items, including charters and assignments for RDFs, with Fuqiao noting no progress yet. They discussed web sustainability guidelines and agreed to move DAPT to completed status.

WG Charter Review and Updates

The group reviewed the status of various issues of the new charter. They discussed the renewal process for the Interest Group (IG) and Working Group (WG) charters, with Philippe refusing to get the AC to review the IG charter unless there were substantive changes. Xfq presented updates to the WG charter, including the addition of HTML Ruby markup extensions, a glossary, and tentative deliverables such as Ruby text-to-speech and message resources. The group also addressed comments from Florian and Dom, and discussed the need to add text related to interoperability testing and coordination with other groups.

The team discussed the organization and publication of their deliverables, focusing on the placement of the glossary as a priority and its potential as a living document. Addison suggested reviewing other non-normative work to determine if any should be included in the Rec Track, while Joel clarified the necessity of explicitly listing deliverables due to IPR considerations. Action items were assigned to create a list of existing projects for discussion, revise the document, and consider the addition of testing plans and success criteria.

HTML Ruby Extension Issues Closed

The team reviewed and closed two tracker issues related to HTML Ruby extension examples that were previously discussed at TPAC. Richard confirmed that Florian had made the necessary adjustments to the examples, and both issues (1865 and 1863) were closed with team agreement.

Font Subsetting and Dynamic Content

The team discussed font subsetting and its limitations, particularly for dynamic content. They agreed that subsetting could be useful for static pages but not for dynamic content where unknown characters might be needed. Richard planned to reopen an issue about font optimization guidelines, pending label updates from Fuqiao. The group also discussed incremental font transfer (IFT) as a potential solution for handling various languages and scripts.

For Addison Phillips

The WG watched a tribute presentation to Addison Phillips, who is stepping down as chair of the W3C Internationalization Working Group after more than two decades of service. The presentation highlighted Addison's contributions to making the web global, including his work on BCP47 language tags and internationalization best practices.
