Seems like a mismatch to me.

There are no bytes in a _page_, but characters. (And as written in the 
2nd sentence, the BOM character is invisible, i.e. you won’t find it at 
the beginning.)

You’ll find bytes in a _file_.

It should say “At the beginning of a file that uses a Unicode character 
encoding you may find some bytes …”, similar to the current version of 
the article.
