I'm fairly certain that many people would prefer that HTML editing be EXACTLY like Word editing (or take over that scenario, at least ;)). I'm not sure why you're implying they're fundamentally different? Is that not at the very heart of this debate ? Either one believes in document markup (as I do), or one uses a word processor. In the first case, one is first describing the semantics of a document, and then defining how it is to be rendered for one or more media; in the second case, one is virtually forced to consider both at the same time (to the detriment of both, IMHO).
