I've just seen the DOM Level 2 HTML spec updated, and it occurs to me that spec is not written for HTML. With all due respect to the HTML WG, as they are breaking backwards-compatibility deliberately with XHTML 1 and HTML 4, I would suggest the WG put together a new DOM for XHTML 2.0, XForms, XFrames, etc. Also, I'm wondering if the ins and del elements can include a date attribute (for when the change takes effect), and also an attribute for the author of the change. Plus a <stet>...</stet> element, to negate an edit element, might be wise to retain context for those of us who wish to remove a change but leave reference to it there.
