Dan, Thanks for discussing this so clearly and openly, and putting the arguments on the right footing. I think the problem is that specs are (intentionally) stripped of the reasoning behind the design choices. That information has to be kept somewhere, preferably somewhere the poor reader can find it. -- Jason Orendorff
