I think this error was also present in the original HTML 4.00, but obviously now would be a good time to correct it. In section 6.12 "Link Types" <URL: http://www.w3.org/TR/html40/types.htm l#h-6.12 >, under "Alternate" the specification says: "When used together with the lang attribute, it implies a translated version of the document." This is not consistent with section 12.1.5 "Internationalization and links" <URL: http://www.w3.org/TR/html40/struct/links.html#h-12.1.5 > where it states that hreflang should be used when specifying the language of the linked resource. -- George Lund
