I remember that in an earlier version of the draft, they were deprecated.
I think this has now been changed.  Why do I think this?  Because I
remember distinctly writing an e-mail to the group discussing the issue of
deprecated elements, and a violent discussion insued regarding the
relevance of the <I> element, *particularly* for taxonomy purposes...
