Now that XML is almost done it does not make sense to extend HTML with all of its features. HTML should have supported entities several years ago, but at this point it makes much more sense to just push for XML, which allows you to define your own tags as well as entities. (I would not count on browser support for entities in a hurry, however). Paul Prescod
