Java applet or CGI-BIN

Hi all,

I'm writing a Java applet for audio and video presentation in the Web.
But I'm severly limited by Security problems. I'm considering to
switch to the CGI solution. Can anyone tell me what are the criterias developpers often use when deciding to implement a web application as a Java applet or a CGI-BIN.

Any comments about this will be appreciated .
