Perhaps the idea is to let the applet generate pre-formatted text (which an IMG, of course, wouldn't)? Good point...has anyone seen this done. And would the same apply to EMBED and/or OBJECT? I can see an argument for IMG of very tiny GIFs for obscure glyphs which don't exist in the fixed-width fonts commonly used. ///Peter
